Sea Scallop Research: Temporal-Spatially Specific Fisheries Management System

Scallop Abundance Distribution Graph

The scallop research data is being used as the basis for developing a temporal-spatially specific fisheries management system. The three components of the system are:

1) The collection of high-resolution information on the size and density of sea scallops in real-time,

2) A standard model to estimate population trajectory and the effect of fishing,

3) An optimal harvest estimate to compare to different proposed management alternatives.

Collaboratiing in this effort are Dr. Brian Rothschild, Dr. Farhad Azadivar, Dr. Tu Truong, and Dr. Kevin Stokesbury.
