Dr. Brian J. Rothschild, MFI Co-Director
Dr. Brian Rothschild is Co-Director of the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries Institute. In addition,
Dr. Rothschild holds several positions including: Montgomery Charter Professor of Marine Science
at the School for Marine Science and Technology, University of Massachusetts; Co-Chair of the
Massachusetts Fisheries Recovery Commission; and member of the editorial board of "The Sea: Ideas
and Observations on Progress in the Study of the Seas." He has served on several national and
international committees including: Secretary of the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research
(SCOR); Chair of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics
(GLOBEC); member of the Ocean Studies Board of the National Research Council; and member of the
Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council. He has had faculty and other associations with the
University of Washington; University of Hawaii; Scripps Institution of Oceanography; Rosenstiel
School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, University of Miami; Institut fur Meereskunde an Der
Universitate Kiel; Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution; and Harvard University. He has also
written or edited five books and approximately one hundred research papers.

Mr. Paul Diodati, MFI Co-Director
Mr. Diodati is Co-Director of the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries Institute. Mr. Diodati also
currently serves as Director of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF). Before
being named Director of the DMF, Mr. Diodati was a senior fisheries biologist for the DMF and
served as the Sport Fish Program Director. And for the six months prior to assuming the role of
director, he was Acting Assistant Director of Research for the DMF. Since that time, Mr. Diodati
led efforts to maintain and enhance the Commonwealth's anadromous fishery resources and oversaw
surveys and research projects needed for fisheries management. He also led the evaluation of
potential impacts on marine resources, habitat, and fisheries from industrial and residential
development, oil or toxic waste spills, and other factors. He participated on technical and
management bodies to develop research and management plans in conjunction with other state and
federal fishery agencies and devised and managed agency budgets. He is well known for his work
with the Gulf of Maine northern shrimp and Atlantic striped bass stocks.

Dr. Kevin Stokesbury - Research Director
Dr. Kevin Stokesbury is the Research Director for the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries Institute.
Dr. Stokesbury currently serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Fisheries
Oceanography at the School for Marine Science and Technology (SMAST) at the University of
Massachusetts Dartmouth. In addition, Dr. Stokesbury is involved with the SMAST Fisheries
program conducting research on sea scallops, lobsters, and groundfish. Since 1999, Dr.
Stokesbury, his laboratory, members of the commercial sea scallop industry, and the Massachusetts
Department of Marine Fisheries have completed 98 video cruises surveying Georges Bank and the
Mid-Atlantic. This unique data set covers the entire scallop resource and provides data for
scallop assessments, sediment and habitat distributions, and other macroinvertebrate densities.

Dr. David Pierce - Policy Director
Dr. David Pierce is the Policy Director for the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries Institute.
Dr. Pierce currently serves as Deputy Director for the Massachusetts Division of Marine
Fisheries.
